Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to find out the stress level of dental technologist by using Korean Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS), to check for its appropriate for dental technologist and search for the method to measure in-depth stress factors.

Methods: The study targets were 116 dental technologists; for the measurement of occupational stress level, 24 shortened form questions of KOSS developed by, were used. The stress level was grasped depending on the general characteristics by using T test or ANOVA of SPSS ver. 18.0, and stress factors of dental technologists were analyzed through structural matrix and factor analysis using Oblimin containing Kaiser normalization.

Results: It was found that 6 factors were more appropriate than 7 sub factors that were proposed when KOSS was developed. It was also found that there was a relationship between working hours and stress, and the items with high stress showed high job autonomy (time pressure, excessive work load, irregular rest and work characteristics requiring several works at the same time.

Conclusion: It was evaluated that KOSS was appropriate for the measurement of dental technologist's stress. It is necessary to search for the method to analyze the stress factors that are more appropriate for dental technologist and to solve stress continuously.
